Macbook Neo is perfectly fine to use

"8GB RAM, at 2026?!" "256GB starting storage?!" "I could have bought a way better spec-ed laptop for $599!"

Apple has recently announced Macbook Neo, and again, critics appeared swiftly and dunking on the spec Apple has provided.

Yes you definitely could have bought a better spec-ed windows / linux laptop with similar prices.

What are you gonna do with better spec-ed laptop? What are you going to ship? Art, music, games, software, prose, books, research?

Aside from consuming (playing games, social media), in my opinion computer is a tool to help one produce works, and it is the work produced that mattered. Who cares if you get a 128GB RAM machine just to browse HackerNews all day? Heck I would play your game even if you just used a 2GB RAM Debian machine to produce it.

Luffy won the Evo 2014 Ultra Street Fighter IV grand finals, using a PS1 controller (with a custom adapter) , against players who use fancy optimized arcade fight stick. He has been playing games since the PlayStation 1 era, and the controller is the most familiar to him. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XZkVt4o_ILk

And there's also a player who won fighting game using steering wheel input controller : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n_irhlVNkKM (not really, but you get the point of using the tool that makes you productive)

Macbook Neo might have hardware limitations that make it unable to process intensive video processing / AI LLM etc, but I think it is definitely sufficient enough to produce books, drawings, songs, games, software etc.

What do you plan to make with your computer?
